My name is Leslie Valerio, a printer and illustrator/comic book artist based in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. I am responsible for the artwork for Ghost-In-The-Spoke, and I'm a regular contributing artist for GAAM.
I earned my BFA from the University of North Florida in 2013. I am currently pursuing my MFA in illustration and visual development.
Ghost stories and feminism are huge influences on my work. I also ride bikes and play way too much video games.
STATEMENT
Visual tension is the focus of my work. Tension is portrayed in physical forms, personified or objectified, in paintings and ink drawings. The female figure is repeatedly featured, and she is dominated by the force. Is she succumbing to her trauma, allowing the ghosts of her past transform her? Will she gather strength to fight her inner demons?
